Making your CV Sing

Let’s face it, no one would seriously send out a singing CV to get someone’s attention would they? No, really. But your CV is an absolutely vital document. If you are looking for more money, promotion, professional recognition and to improve your career prospects, then a dull CV can kill your chances stone dead.

Don’t let it happen. Companies receive so many applications from people with similar skill sets that your CV has to set you apart. It has to show them how different and how suitable you are. Without being gimmicky.

A good CV will let an employer know about your skills, competence, confidence and professionalism. It will also be unique, compelling and sing off the page. But not literally.

Our clients tell us that each CV usually gets no more than a 20 second glance. So you’ve got just a few moments to catch their eye and make sure yours is selected, not shredded.

They’ll be looking for interpersonal skills, teamwork, analytical thinking, initiative, drive and quantified ‘added value’ achievements. All in 20 seconds!

How to make every second count:

  • Get to the point of why you are the best candidate quickly and without fuss
  • Make sure your CV is relevant to the role
  • Write key words into your CV at strategic points
  • Highlight qualifications, skills, experience and personal style
  • Show what benefits the employer will gain by hiring you
  • Pitch your CV at the right level for the job
  • Demonstrate how you have achieved results
  • Project a confident, polished and professional image
  • Be no longer than 2 sides of A4
  • Don’t make it a CV-a-gram
